Cambrian hosted League Two Pontypridd in the league cup this weekend and with their previous 4-0 Welsh cup victory were the strong favorites. Cambrian made 5 changes to their starting line up and Pontypridd may have felt they were facing a lesser Cambrian team looking good from the off, but it wasnt long before Cambrian settled down and took control of the game.
Jason Bertorelli putting a shot just wide was followed by a goal by Huw Bowtell who found himself on a great cross in from Laith Jawar. Bowtell caused Pontypridd more trouble in the box, hitting the bar from an over head kick then scoring his second not long after that came from a Jawar long throw. The third goal of the first half came from Dane Williams, Bowtell put a ball over the defense which Williams picked up and skillfully placed past the keeper. The game was out of reach for Pontypridd before half time when Bertorelli skipped through Ponty's defense and put Cambrian 4-0 up.
Pontypridd did have a better second half, playing some quick football down both wings and having several good chances, a conciliation goal coming late on for their efforts. Overall a solid performance from Cambrian who move into the second round.
